Promotion Winner Dimi Konstantopoulos Signs New Boro Contract

The 38-year-old has agreed to extend a stay that has seen him clock 104 appearances in a Boro shirt since signing four years ago.

The experienced Greek found himself behind Victor Valdes and Brad Guzan last season, despite playing a key role in the promotion winning season of 2015/16 when we racked up nine consecutive clean sheets, smashing a 30-year record, and did not miss a minute of league action. In total, Dimi kept 22 clean sheets as Boro clinched promotion back to the Premier League.

The goalkeeper was originally signed by Tony Mowbray in August 2013 on a short-term contract until January 2014, and that was extended by Aitor Karanka, following his appointment as Head Coach.

He made his Boro first team debut in the 2-0 FA Cup defeat to Hull City in January 2014, but ended the season as Karanka’s first choice goalkeeper, passing Jason Steele and Tomas Mejias in the pecking order.

His impressive performances between the sticks led to him being awarded a new one-year contract in May 2014, and that was followed by a further extension as he kept impressing with a string of fine displays.

With pre-season training due to start later this week Dimi, Connor Ripley, and Tomas Mejias will be the three senior goalkeepers who begin the summer work with new manager Garry Monk.
